Day 1 - content:

Theory

  • Primary & secondary survey – remind and revise 
  • Diarrhoea and vomiting 
  • Hypothermia and heat injuries
  • Fluid therapy 
  • Hypocalcaemia and the lethal triad 
  • Input/output charts 
  • Sheep vomit – nursing skills 
  • Infection and antibiotics 
  • MSK injuries and management 
  • Pharmacology – basic drugs

Practical

  • Bed side tests – Obs and urinalysis 
  • Wound management 
  • Tourniquets and trauma equipment
  • Airway management 
  • Suturing 
  • I/C drains - group level dependant 
  • Catheterisation 
  • IM injection 
  • Cannulation 

Day 2 - content

  • Cohort split into 2 teams of 4
  • Attend casualty and extract to field hospital
  • Stabilised and monitored through out the night
  • Instructors to over see various scenarios
